Samstag 16. Juli

Hallo Alles,

Today I took Dylan's excitement to heart and slept in until eleven, but I guess I deserved it considering I was up past three. Without fail, every morning's breakfast has included bread, so, for the 9th time, I ate delicious German bread (it's better than "American" bread) complimented by a fruit salad, two eggs, and warm milk. Simon, my exchange partner, then drove his mom and me to the Titisee, which sounds funny in both German and English. Simon is not allowed to drive by himself yet, as the German law states you have to be 18 to drive, so this trip was riddled with his mom telling him to, "drive slower," and, "Did you not see that car!" Simon is a good driver though, and the car tour was filled with both beautiful sights and awkward techno German music.

While taking photos of the Titisee I was almost hit by a Lamborghini. Thankfully, I heard the driver punching his accelerator so I could get out of the way with plenty of time. During the trip we also drove by the Rothaus Brewerie, one of the biggest breweries in Germany, slowing down to allow me to take as many photos as possible (trust me I'm not an annoying tourist). We then made our way to Freiburg, passing by rolling hills, Feldberg and encountered the worst parking job I've ever witnessed. Once in Freiburg we met up with some other Americans where I personally thanked Dylan for his shoutout, and climbed 295 steps to the top of the Münster (I personally counted all of the steps).
Münster is a giant church in Freiburg with a large bell system at the top which we all watched strike 15:00. The bell was extremely loud and frightening, making multiple students jump in surprise, but was worth the trek up the three large circular staircases. Freiburg itself is an old and beautiful city known for having brick walkways/streets everywhere, too many bikers, and pristine ice cream. After the Münster, Simon and I met up with Luke #1 and his partner Markus and wandered around downtown Freiburg, eventually deciding we were too hungry to continue sight seeing. Us four then went to Rothaus Brewerie for Abendessen, not ordering beer don't worry, and ordering enough bratwursts to compensate for skipping lunch.

We then went home and Simon and I hung out with some of his German friends at a birthday party for the rest of the night. Today was an enjoyable and exciting day and I'm looking forward to more adventures in the next week with my host family. Heather's blog tomorrow will add to this incredible epic of the Academy in Deutschland.

Ready to go to sleep before 3:00,
Luke #2 Amen
